The 2014 Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race

The 2014 Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race.  About 200 nm from Astoria, OR to Victoria, BC.  What a wet and wild ride.  We started off in about 20 knots of wind and chop, which gradually built to 25-30 gusting 35 knots and swells maxing out at around 12-15 feet.  Race records were broken all around.  The Bob Perry designed boat Icon was first across the finish line at 14:56 elapsed time, smashing the previous record by almost five hours.

I was on a Farr designed  Mumm 36 race sled out of Portland, OR, named Panama Red.

Here’s a seven minute video of our 23 hour ride…

That’s me holding on to the stanchion, bracing myself with a foot in the companionway.
